Micropiles are small-diameter drilled and grouted piles designed to transfer structural loads to deeper and more competent soil or rock layers. They are widely used for foundation reinforcement, underpinning of existing structures, seismic retrofitting and construction in confined areas.
The system typically consists of a drilled borehole, steel reinforcement (bar, casing or combined systems) and cement grout injected under pressure. Micropiles can work in compression, tension or combined loading conditions, making them highly versatile for both new construction and rehabilitation projects.
Depending on ground conditions and structural requirements, micropiles can be executed as:
- Single-bar micropiles
- Cased micropiles
- Self-drilling micropiles
- High-capacity micropiles with multiple reinforcement elements
Micropile technology ensures high adaptability to different soil profiles, including soft soils, dense sands, gravels and rock formations, while maintaining low vibration and minimal disturbance.
